About
Photography is a magical thing, it can freeze a moment in time and preserve a small slice of that memory, drawing back to the remnant of emotions.
Since finding it, photography has allowed me to express my perspective on what it means to exist. Sharing my thoughts from the playful, to the deeper questions of the human condition. The majority of my pictures are taken with film, it is truly a labor of love and the process is ever evolving.
Film is a make-or-break way of shooting. The process allows me to engage with people unhindered and raw. The shortcomings of film are some of the things I absolutely love about the medium. Ultimately, it comes down to quality; quality of timing, image capture and content.
My greatest wish is that my pictures connect with people in a way that gets at the deeper links between things. Photography's meaning for me is to cast an eye on the shadows, the details, the words unspoken. Those areas where truth lies in the in-between moments.
My Process
Making pictures involves substantially more than clicking a shutter release. I approach projects with a concept in mind, working off that concept in a fluid motion. While I like the technical aspects of photography I try to keep that to a minimum when i’m exploring with a subject. The process is tailored to the individual design, but the approach is ordered as follows:
Planning - sketches, notes, gathering materials, props, etc.
Setup - assessing light, scene, lighting placement, etc.
Shooting - taking the picture and working with the subject.
Developing - hand develop B&W films, sent out to a local lab for color.
Scanning - dust removal, basic corrections.
Culling/Editing - selection process, color corrections, dust edits, curves, etc.
Printing - Local lab processing, proofs, etc.
A more in-depth look at the process involved.
